Intentional or not, the announcement of new settlements in East Jerusalem may push the US into a tougher stance towards Israel It’s not the first time that Israel has stiffed Barack Obama over his attempts to kick-start Middle East peace negotiations. But the sudden, highly inflammatory announcement of plans to build an additional 1,600 homes in occupied East Jerusalem , in the midst of a visit to Israel of US vice-president Joe Biden, was certainly the most brutally contemptuous rebuff so far to American peacemaking.

In talks with Binyamin Netanyahu, US vice-president stresses need to prevent Iran obtaining nuclear weapons The US vice-president, Joe Biden, promised the Israeli government today that it had the strong support of Washington and said the US was committed to preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. “There is no space between the US and Israel when it comes to Israel’s security,” Biden said, after meeting the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, in Jerusalem. Don’t label massacre of Armenians as genocide, says Obama administration

Mar 4th, 2010 | By admin | Category: World News

Resolution describing first world war killings as genocide risks souring US relations with Turkey, warns Hillary Clinton The Obama administration has urged a US house of representatives committee to shelve a resolution describing as genocide the massacre of more than a million Armenians by the Ottoman empire during the first world war, in an effort to stave off conflict with Turkey. The US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, yesterday warned a top congressman on the House foreign affairs committee that the resolution would ratchet up tensions with Turkey, a Nato ally with about 1,700 troops in Afghanistan, and could imperil the fragile reconciliation process between Turkey and Armenia.
